On 16th November, 1914, the 2nd Manchester battalion of 14 Brigade, 5th Division moved into trenches at Wulverghem between Ypres and Armentières where they remained until relieved on 27th November. During their time there they came under shell fire on a daily basis and suffered some casualties as a result. James Jutsum died from wounds on 28th November, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast and it is likely that he was wounded during this spell spent in the trenches. |
